By Brazil Stock Guide – Petrobras (PETR3; PETR4) announced a 3.7% reduction in the average price of aviation kerosene (QAV) effective Monday, September 1. The state-controlled company said the measure applies across all regions of Brazil, a move that eases some of the financial strain on airlines facing high fuel costs, according to Investing.com Brasil.

The company explained that QAV prices are adjusted monthly and reflect both international oil price fluctuations and exchange rate movements. Petrobras emphasized that its pricing policy follows technical criteria aligned with global practices for refining products.

Aviation kerosene accounts for roughly one-third of operational expenses for airlines. While the cut may provide some financial breathing room, the final impact on ticket prices will depend on demand dynamics and commercial strategies adopted by carriers.

Brazil’s airline sector has repeatedly pressed for measures to mitigate fuel-related costs, often cited as a major factor behind higher fares. Petrobras’s latest adjustment comes amid global instability in crude prices, driven by geopolitical tensions and supply shifts.

Analysts caution that volatility in the international oil market and Brazil’s exchange rate could quickly reverse the relief, leaving the September cut as a temporary reprieve for the aviation industry.
