By Brazil Stock Guide – Grupo Casas Bahia (B3: BHIA3) announced a long-term strategic partnership with Mercado Livre (Nasdaq: MELI) to accelerate digital retail in Brazil. Starting in November, Casas Bahia’s core product categories — home appliances, electronics, and furniture — will be available on Mercado Livre’s platform.

A leader in physical retail for appliances, technology, and furniture, Casas Bahia has been struggling to maintain competitiveness in a fast-changing market. The company remains heavily indebted and recently underwent a change in control, as its shareholders seek a path to financial recovery.

Brazil’s e-commerce sector has expanded far faster than traditional retail since the pandemic, creating intense pressure on legacy chains such as Casas Bahia to modernize their business models. The partnership with Mercado Livre — Latin America’s largest online marketplace — represents both an opportunity and a necessity for the brand to regain scale, reach new customers, and reposition itself in the digital era.

“This alliance will allow us to gain market share, scale our operations, and optimize the use of our ecosystem, including logistics, credit, and service solutions,” said Renato Franklin, CEO of Grupo Casas Bahia. “More than just channel expansion, this represents an evolution in Grupo Casas Bahia’s business model — a company that is increasingly efficient, connected, and ready for the future of Brazilian retail.”

Fernando Yunes, Senior Vice President and Head of Mercado Livre in Brazil, said: “We are proud to welcome Casas Bahia to our platform. The arrival of such a historic brand with a strong consumer connection reinforces our commitment to developing and strengthening e-commerce in Brazil.” The announcement comes just ahead of Black Friday, when demand for appliances, electronics, and furniture typically surges. Yunes added that the partnership “marks the beginning of a new chapter for e-commerce in these key categories.”

Through the partnership, Mercado Livre will play a strategic and complementary role in distributing Casas Bahia’s core products. The initiative aims to consolidate the retailer’s position as an omnichannel player and strengthen its leadership in first-party (1P) sales in Brazil’s competitive retail landscape.
