By Brazil Stock Guide – Brazil’s National Land Transport Agency (ANTT) approved the bidding terms for the concession of the Regis Bittencourt highway, setting an auction date for July 23 as part of efforts to revamp key infrastructure contracts.
The 402-kilometer (250-mile) stretch, which connects São Paulo to Curitiba, is currently operated by Arteris SA (ARTR3 BZ). The contract underwent renegotiation through a mediation framework led by Brazil’s Federal Court of Accounts (TCU), designed to rebalance agreements and avoid litigation.
The new concession contract предусматриes approximately 7.2 billion reais ($1.4 billion) in capital expenditures over its duration, focused on capacity expansion, operational improvements and maintenance.
The revised terms also include an extension of the concession period by eight years, aimed at ensuring the economic viability of the planned investments.
The existing agreement, signed in 2008, is being updated as part of a broader government initiative to restructure highway concessions considered outdated or financially unbalanced.
