Whirlpool Shuts Argentina Plant, Moves Output to Brazil

Production will shift to Rio Claro facility as company seeks efficiency gains and regional consolidation.

Whirlpool Argentina plant closure

By Brazil Stock Guide – Whirlpool Corp. (WHR) is shutting down its manufacturing plant in Pilar, Argentina, and transferring production to its facility in Rio Claro, in Brazil’s São Paulo state, as part of a strategy to streamline operations and optimize resources across Latin America.

The decision was announced Monday (20), according to a report by G1, citing a company statement. Whirlpool said the move aims to “improve operational efficiency and optimize resources, consolidating the company’s position as a sector leader by integrating manufacturing excellence with consumer-focused innovation to drive sustainable growth.”

The Rio Claro unit will centralize production of both top-loading and front-loading washing machines, positioning the Brazilian site as a key export hub for premium laundry appliances across Latin America.

Whirlpool added that the closure will not affect its commercial operations in Argentina. “This decision does not change the company’s commitment to continue supplying and serving customers in Argentina,” the company said. The Argentine market will continue to be supplied through products manufactured at other global facilities and distributed by Whirlpool’s local unit.

The Rio Claro plant is expected to become the company’s most advanced manufacturing site in Latin America, incorporating artificial intelligence and robotics to handle complex production processes.

The company has not disclosed whether the shift will lead to an expansion of the Brazilian facility or the creation of new jobs.
