Inter Gets U.S. Branch License as Brazil’s Digital Bank Pushes Deeper Abroad

The Florida license allows Banco Inter to operate directly in the U.S., issue its own cards and migrate 5.5 million global-account clients to a regulated banking structure.

Banco Inter, bank

By Brazil Stock Guide – Inter&Co (INBR32; INTR) has obtained the final license needed to launch Banco Inter’s branch in Florida, a regulatory step that turns its U.S. expansion from an approved plan into an operating platform.

The license, granted by the Florida Office of Financial Regulation, allows Banco Inter to begin operations through its U.S. branch. The move follows approvals received in January from the Federal Reserve and Florida regulators to establish the branch, according to company filings and the Fed order.

A Direct Model

The strategic point is not simply geographic expansion. Inter will now be able to issue its own debit and credit cards and offer regulated banking and credit products without relying on third-party partner banks.

That matters because partner-bank structures can be useful for entering a market quickly, but they also add costs, complexity and operational dependence. A licensed branch gives Inter more control over products, funding and client experience.

Global Clients

Inter plans to migrate its current 5.5 million global-account clients to the new structure. For a Brazilian digital bank trying to position itself as a cross-border financial platform, this is a significant shift.

The company says the branch should improve its funding mix, reduce servicing costs and support the next phase of international growth. In practical terms, Inter is trying to move from offering global-account access through partners to operating more like a regulated banking player in the U.S. market.

The Miami Bet

Miami is the natural base for that strategy. It connects Brazil, Latin America and the U.S. financial system, and has become a preferred hub for Brazilian companies seeking dollar revenues, international clients and a broader investor story.
