By Brazil Stock Guide – The Port of Santos closed 2025 with a new all-time cargo throughput record, handling 186.4 million tonnes, reinforcing its position as Brazil’s main logistics hub and one of the most relevant ports globally. The result reflects stronger port activity nationwide, improvements in operational efficiency and a more robust investment environment in infrastructure.
The figures underscore Santos’ strategic role in moving Brazilian exports and imports, particularly bulk commodities, liquid cargoes and containerised freight. In 2025, the port accounted for a substantial share of the country’s total port throughput, in line with a record performance by Brazil’s port system overall, which surpassed 1.34 billion tonnes during the year.
Beyond operational performance, the Santos complex is advancing a pipeline of large-scale projects. Chief among them is the auction of Tecon Santos 10, part of the concessions programme led by the Ministry of Ports and Airports. The new container terminal is expected to lift the port’s installed container-handling capacity by around 50%, pushing Santos into a new tier of scale, productivity and attractiveness for major global shipping routes.
Tecon Santos 10 forms part of a broader concessions agenda, which includes 18 port auctions and four access-channel concessions in the coming cycles. The programme aims to enhance regulatory predictability, strengthen legal certainty and crowd in private investment, with Santos at the centre of Brazil’s long-term logistics and trade strategy.
