By Brazil Stock Guide – Petrobras (PETR3, PETR4) has launched the contracting process for its first dedicated plant to produce renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), the company said in a statement carried by Reuters. The facility will be built at the Presidente Bernardes Refinery (RPBC) in Cubatão, São Paulo state, marking a milestone in the state-controlled oil producer’s strategy to expand its presence in cleaner energy.

The project is designed to process about 950,000 metric tons of vegetable oils and animal fats annually, enabling a production capacity of up to 16,000 barrels per day of renewable fuels, including SAF and 100% renewable diesel. Petrobras expects to sign contracts in the second half of 2026 and begin construction by the end of that year.

The company said the project has been split into five contracting packages. The first tender, already open, covers the pre-treatment unit, which will remove impurities from feedstock before conversion into renewable products. Storage tanks will also be installed for feedstocks such as soybean oil and tallow, sourced primarily from Brazil’s Midwest, South and Southeast regions.

“This dedicated plant for renewable fuels at RPBC and the offering of new products to the market will be a landmark in the sustainable development we are committed to,” said Renata Baruzzi, Petrobras’ director of engineering, technology and innovation.
