Petrobras Hits Record Gas Processing Capacity of 50 Million Cubic Meters a Day, Says President

State-controlled oil giant’s president says expansion in pre-salt output is driving lower prices and more flexible contracts

Petrobras Targets Full Diesel Self-Sufficiency by 2031

By Brazil Stock Guide – Petrobras (BVMF: PETR4; NYSE: PBR) has surpassed a record 50 million cubic meters per day of processed natural gas, according to company President Magda Chambriard. The executive made the statement in a LinkedIn post on Saturday, Valor Econômico reported.

Chambriard said the company’s effort to boost gas availability has been reducing prices in the domestic market. “Our effort to increase the use of pre-salt gas, bringing more gas to the coast and treating it to enable its transportation and distribution, is becoming clearer every day,” she said.

She added that, depending on demand conditions, Petrobras has been offering more flexible contracts in the free market, with gas priced between $6 and $7 per million British thermal units (MMBtu).

Expansion via Rota 3

The milestone comes after Petrobras launched in May the Natural Gas Processing Unit (UPGN) at the Boaventura Energy Complex, formerly known as Comperj. The plant, part of the Rota 3 project to transport and process pre-salt output, has capacity to handle 21 million cubic meters per day.

Chambriard said the strategy reinforces Petrobras’ position in the Brazilian energy market, ensuring greater competitiveness and predictability for both industry and consumers.
