By Brazil Stock Guide – MG Motor, the British car brand owned by China’s SAIC Motor Corp. (600104.SS), will begin producing electric vehicles in Brazil in October, using a former Troller factory in Horizonte, in the metropolitan region of Fortaleza, Ceará.
The company announced its arrival in Ceará on Thursday (25) at a ceremony held at the state government palace, according to CNN Brasil. The project includes R$400 million in investment and an estimated 600 direct and indirect jobs in the region.
MG will assemble the MG4 Urban hatchback and the MG S5 electric SUV at the site. The MG4 Urban is expected to arrive first as an imported model before local production starts. The top version of the vehicle is expected to be priced at as much as R$159,000.
The move adds another electric-vehicle manufacturer to Ceará’s automotive hub, which was created after the end of Troller’s operations in the state. The site is now managed by PACE as a multibrand industrial complex, handling plant administration, logistics, supplier connections and preparations for different automakers.
MG will share the broader industrial complex with General Motors Co. (GM), which already has an operation there focused on electrified vehicles, including models such as the Spark EUV and Captiva EV. The two automakers will operate separately, each in its own warehouse.
Rodrigo Teixeira, vice president of Comexport, said the company took over the former Troller structure and converted it into a multibrand automotive group. Comexport is not publicly traded.
MG’s industrial plan includes an initial investment of more than R$60 million to prepare the assembly line and adapt the plant’s technology. The company expects to produce about 50,000 vehicles over the next four years.
The MG4 Urban will enter Brazil’s increasingly competitive electric hatchback market, where it will face models such as BYD Co.’s (1211.HK) Dolphin, Geely Automobile Holdings Ltd.’s (0175.HK) EX2, GAC Group’s (2238.HK) Aion UT and DFM’s Box.
MG’s push into Brazil comes as the brand expands globally. The company sold 4.5 million vehicles in more than 100 countries in 2025, according to CNN Brasil.
Thiago Marques, MG’s head of marketing and product, said the company plans to build a full after-sales and support structure across Brazil. He said the goal is not only to sell cars in the country but to establish a long-term presence in the market.
