Iran-Flagged Vessel Listed Under U.S. Sanctions Docks in Brazil With Fertilizer Cargo

Iran-flagged vessel listed under U.S. sanctions docked in Paranaguá in February with a urea shipment consigned to Link Comercial.

By Brazil Stock Guide – Public records and maritime tracking data show that the bulk carrier MV Ganj, sailing under the Iranian flag and identified in sanctions-related records administered by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), docked at the Port of Paranaguá on February 3, 2026. The vessel was carrying a shipment identified in port records as urea fertilizer, consigned to Link Comercial Importadora, a trading company based in southern Brazil.

AIS data from MarineTraffic place the MV Ganj at location code BR PNG, with navigational status marked as “Moored” (alongside) and a reported draught of 12.8 meters, consistent with bulk solid cargo operations. The system records an actual time of arrival (ATA) of February 3, 2026. Voyage information indicates that the vessel last departed from Asaluyeh, Iran, on October 21, 2025, before proceeding to Brazil.

Link Comercial Importadora is headquartered in Pomerode, Santa Catarina, and operates as a trading company, providing import services on behalf of third parties and importation by order, according to information published on its website. The company maintains multiple operations in the Brazilian market, distributing imported products across several segments, including tires, textile yarns, steel and urea, among others.

The MV Ganj is identified by name in sanctions-related records maintained by the OFAC, an agency of the U.S. Department of the Treasury responsible for administering and enforcing U.S. economic sanctions programs. OFAC measures are designed to have extraterritorial reach, affecting non-U.S. persons when transactions involve the U.S. dollar, international banking channels, global insurers or maritime services connected to the international financial system. When a vessel itself is identified under a sanctions program, the provision of services to that asset — including transportation, port access, agency services, insurance or bunkering — may become subject to regulatory restrictions.

The cargo is associated with Pardis Petrochemical Company, which public reference materials describe as an affiliate of the National Petrochemical Company (NPC). International documentation characterizes the NPC as a subsidiary of Iran’s Ministry of Petroleum and records its inclusion in U.S. sanctions frameworks following the reimposition of measures against Iran in November 2018. The association between the cargo producer and a state-controlled Iranian entity is considered a relevant factor in compliance and regulatory risk assessments in international shipping and commodity trade.

Under sanctions regimes administered by the OFAC, the involvement of a vessel identified in sanctions-related records typically triggers heightened compliance scrutiny across the logistics chain. Port operators, shipping agents, logistics providers, insurers and financial institutions participating in such operations may reassess their exposure under applicable regulations, regardless of jurisdiction. The nature of the cargo, in itself, does not alter the regulatory status of a vessel identified under sanctions programs.

From a Brazilian perspective, situations of this kind may present financial, operational and reputational considerations for private-sector participants, including banks, logistics operators and port service providers, particularly where transactions interface with international financial systems or global insurance markets. In cases involving public infrastructure, such episodes may also attract broader institutional attention.

Link Comercial Importadora was contacted and asked whether it had prior knowledge of the vessel’s sanctions-related status and the associated counterparties at the time the cargo and logistics were contracted, as well as whether any legal opinions, due diligence procedures or regulatory authorizations were obtained. The space remains open for Link Comercial Importadora’s position.
