By Brazil Stock Guide – Huawei and Aggreko will develop Brazil’s largest battery energy storage project, investing roughly R$850 million to install hybrid microgrids in 24 remote communities in the state of Amazonas, reports Reuters. The project combines 110 MWp of solar generation with 120 MWh of battery storage (BESS), aiming to cut reliance on diesel-fired power plants in isolated systems.
About R$510 million will come from a fund created during the privatization of Eletrobras, now operating under the Axia Energia structure, with the remainder financed by Aggreko. Huawei will supply battery and inverter technology, while Aggreko will integrate and operate the systems.
The microgrids will serve areas not connected to Brazil’s national grid, where electricity generation still depends heavily on subsidized diesel. Solar power generated during the day will charge the batteries and reduce nighttime fuel consumption, with thermal units remaining as backup for reliability.
The announcement positions the Amazon as a testing ground for large-scale storage in Brazil, as policymakers weigh a potential national battery auction. For Huawei, it expands its footprint in energy transition infrastructure; for Aggreko, it strengthens its role in hybrid power solutions in complex, off-grid environments.
