By Brazil Stock Guide — Greece has signed an agreement to acquire three KC-390 Millennium military transport aircraft from Brazilian aerospace manufacturer Embraer (NYSE: EMBJ; B3: EMBJ3), with options to purchase three additional units, the company announced on Monday.
The acquisition was arranged through a government-to-government agreement between Greece and Portugal. The Hellenic Air Force is expected to receive its first aircraft in 2027, expanding its airlift and aerial refueling capabilities while improving interoperability with NATO allies. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Greece becomes the seventh European country to select the KC-390, joining Portugal, Hungary, the Netherlands, Austria, the Czech Republic and Sweden. The aircraft has gained traction among European NATO members seeking to modernize their military transport fleets and strengthen operational cooperation across the alliance.
“We are honored by Greece’s decision to acquire the KC-390 Millennium,” said Bosco da Costa Junior, President and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security. He said the agreement reinforced confidence in the aircraft among NATO members and strengthened its position in the military airlift market.
The KC-390 is a multi-mission military aircraft capable of carrying up to 26 metric tons of cargo and flying at speeds of approximately 470 knots. It can perform troop and cargo transport, aerial refueling, medical evacuation, search and rescue, firefighting and humanitarian assistance missions. The aircraft can also operate from temporary or unpaved runways.
Beyond Europe, the KC-390 has been selected by Brazil, South Korea, Uzbekistan, the United Arab Emirates and Colombia, according to Embraer. The growing international customer base strengthens the Brazilian manufacturer’s position in the global defense market, where it competes for military transport and aerial refueling contracts.
