By Brazil Stock Guide – BB Seguridade Participações SA (B3: BBSE3) reported net income of R$2.333 billion in the third quarter of 2026, virtually unchanged from R$2.334 billion a year earlier, as stronger contributions from Brasilprev offset weaker performances at Brasilseg and BB Corretora.
For the first nine months of 2026, net income reached R$6.885 billion, up 2.5% from R$6.715 billion in the same period last year, according to the company’s interim financial statements approved on Oct. 30.
Earnings from equity-accounted investments declined 1.7% year over year in the third quarter, reflecting lower contributions from two of the group’s main businesses. Brasilseg’s contribution fell R$109.9 million, while BB Corretora’s declined R$58.9 million. Brasilprev provided a partial offset, increasing its contribution by R$139.3 million.
Insurance and brokerage businesses face pressure
BB Seguridade attributed Brasilseg’s weaker performance to a decline in its insurance and reinsurance margin, particularly in contracts measured under the Premium Allocation Approach (PAA).
The company cited lower revenue from policies sold in previous periods, a higher commission ratio and increased claims frequency compared with the third quarter of 2025. The changing composition of its insurance portfolio, including a smaller share of agricultural insurance premiums, also affected the commission ratio.
Brasilseg’s financial performance was also affected by the decline in the average Selic interest rate and a smaller balance of financial assets. Higher interest expenses and monetary adjustments to provisions for claims under judicial proceedings added further pressure.
BB Corretora also reported lower earnings, primarily because of reduced brokerage revenue in the capitalization and insurance segments, alongside a weaker financial result.
Consolidated net commission revenue reached R$1.247 billion in the quarter, down approximately 4.8% from R$1.310 billion in the same period of 2025.
Brasilprev offsets weaker contributions
Brasilprev delivered the strongest positive contribution among the group’s main investees. Its equity-accounted earnings increased to R$436.2 million in the third quarter, compared with R$296.9 million a year earlier.
According to BB Seguridade, the improvement reflected a stronger insurance margin in traditional pension plans. An annual review of assumptions used to project future cash flows reduced the estimated onerousness of these plans, allowing the company to reverse a previously recognized loss component in 3Q26.
Another factor was an accounting change introduced in the first quarter of 2026. The difference between realized IGP-M inflation and the rate established at the transition date ceased to affect the loss component and was instead recognized under financial expenses.
BB Seguridade’s standalone financial result also increased by R$61.3 million year over year, supported by a larger average balance of financial investments. The improvement was partially offset by the decline in the average Selic rate.
