Ambipar and CNOOC sign MoU to speed innovation

By Brazil Stock Guide – Ambipar Participações e Empreendimentos SA and China National Offshore Oil Corp. have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore joint research-and-development projects aimed at Brazil’s oil-and-gas industry, according to a report published by Brasil 247.

The agreement was announced during the inauguration of the Brazil–China Innovation Center in Rio de Janeiro on Dec. 8, and seeks to create a shared innovation agenda focused on improving operational efficiency, safety, reliability and sustainability.

The companies said potential collaboration areas include emergency-response cooperation, operational-efficiency improvements, cost-reduction initiatives, industrial cleaning, robotics and digital solutions applied to industrial environments.

Under the MoU, Ambipar and CNOOC will establish a workflow to map opportunities, design pilot initiatives and assess the technical and economic viability of innovation projects. Any progress will follow each company’s internal procedures and governance requirements, the note said.

Hank Huang, CNOOC’s Brazil CEO, said the MoU “reinforces the commitment to applied innovation and the construction of long-term partnerships to raise the standard of efficiency and safety in operations.” Ricardo Chagas, an Ambipar executive and the firm’s CEO for North America and MENA, highlighted Ambipar’s experience in emergency response and industrial solutions, saying the company aims to accelerate technology pilots that cut risk, costs and response time “with a focus on results.”

The partnership comes amid broader Brazil–China cooperation in strategic areas such as energy and industrial innovation, with the companies positioning the initiative as a pathway to deploy technologies in high-risk operations where rapid response and innovation are critical.

Ambipar is a multinational environmental-solutions provider offering services that include emergency response, waste management, industrial cleaning, environmental services and decarbonization projects for clients across energy, industry, infrastructure and services.

CNOOC is one of China’s largest energy companies focused on oil-and-gas exploration and production, with international operations.
