By Brazil Stock Guide – Transpetro will invest approximately R$630 million to enter Brazil’s inland shipping market, beginning with bunker transport operations in Rio de Janeiro this year. The company plans to have its full fleet operating by February 2028. The information was reported by Broadcast during Navalshore, a maritime industry trade fair in Rio de Janeiro.
Operations to begin in Rio
The company has contracted 18 barges and 18 push boats for the project. After launching operations in Rio, Transpetro plans to supply ships with bunker in Santos, São Paulo state, and Belém, Pará state.
Inland shipping covers operations in protected waters, including rivers. The initiative marks Transpetro’s entry into a new segment of waterborne logistics.
Fleet and shipyard contracts
The fleet will include 10 barges with a capacity of 3,000 tons deadweight each and eight units capable of carrying 2,000 tons deadweight.
Estaleiro Bertolini Construção Naval da Amazônia, known as Beconal, will build the barges. The 18 push boats are being constructed by Indústria Naval Catarinense.
The company’s plan calls for all 18 barges to be in operation by February 2028. The expansion will follow a phased schedule, starting in Rio before reaching Santos and Belém.
