By Brazil Stock Guide – Suzano SA (B3: SUZB3; NYSE: SUZ) signed an agreement to acquire a 10% stake in Imetame Logística Porto SA, joining a port development under construction in Aracruz, Espírito Santo, the company said Monday.
The stake will be acquired through the contribution of land owned by Suzano and strategically located for the development of the project. The transaction isn’t expected to affect the operating or financial performance of Suzano’s Aracruz unit, which is located in the same region.
Suzano said the deal isn’t expected to require a material investment relative to its capital structure or investment plan over the coming years. The company also has no capital expenditure planned for 2026 related to its participation in Imetame Logística.
The greenfield port hub is being developed with five specialized terminals covering containers, general cargo, dry bulk, liquid bulk and ship-to-ship operations. General cargo operations are expected to begin in early 2027 as part of the project’s first phase.
Container Terminal Targets 2028 Start
The container terminal is expected to start operating in mid-2028. It is being developed as a joint venture that includes a 50% stake held by Hanseatic Global Terminals, the terminal division of Hapag-Lloyd.
The terminal is expected to have annual capacity of about 1.2 million twenty-foot equivalent units, or TEUs, with 750 meters of quay and a depth of 17 meters. Suzano said the specifications will allow the facility to handle large vessels. Other terminals will be added in later phases according to the project’s development schedule.
Suzano said the investment fits its long-term value-creation strategy by combining its experience in port logistics with the potential to monetize land assets. The company said the project could develop into a logistics platform serving Brazil’s foreign trade.
Completion of the transaction remains subject to customary conditions, including regulatory approval.
