iFood Explores Ticket Deal in Brazil’s Meal-Voucher Market

Food-delivery leader weighs entry into benefits segment amid regulatory shifts, according to Bloomberg.

Cade iFood retaliation claims

By Brazil Stock Guide – iFood is evaluating a potential acquisition in Brazil’s employee-benefits sector and has examined a deal for Ticket, the Edenred-owned meal-voucher provider, according to Bloomberg. The discussions come as recent government incentives reshape competition in the voucher market, long dominated by players such as Alelo and VR Benefícios.

The news was first reported by Bloomberg, which highlighted that Brazil’s updated rules now allow greater portability for workers and ease market entry for new issuers. The shift has intensified competition, drawing interest from iFood as it considers expanding beyond its core delivery business, which accounts for more than 65% of Brazil’s market and generated R$60.4 billion in GMV in 2024, a 10% increase from the previous year.

The regulatory overhaul has prompted incumbents to respond. Alelo—controlled by Banco do Brasil and Bradesco—has stepped up commercial activity but declined to comment, according to Bloomberg. Ticket remains one of Brazil’s largest voucher operators, serving major corporate clients including Ultragaz and Correios.

For iFood, a move into vouchers could enhance its ecosystem strategy. The company disbursed R$536 million in incentives and payments to couriers through September, underscoring its interest in deepening financial and workplace-services offerings. Analysts say integrating a voucher business could strengthen user retention, broaden transaction flows and extend the platform’s influence across Brazil’s food-service economy.
