Copel completes Baixo Iguaçu sale for $300 million

Brazil’s Copel finalizes sale of Baixo Iguaçu hydropower plant to Energo-Pro as part of asset rotation strategy.

By Brazil Stock Guide – Brazil’s Companhia Paranaense de Energia (Copel) — traded on B3 as CPLE3, CPLE5, CPLE6 and on the NYSE as ELP — announced the completion of the sale of its stake in the Baixo Iguaçu Hydropower Plant to Energo-Pro Brasil Holding S.A.

According to a material fact published by the company, the transaction was carried out through its wholly owned subsidiary, Copel Geração e Transmissão S.A. The deal followed the fulfillment of all contractual conditions and the necessary regulatory approvals.

The total equity value of the transaction reached R$1.683 billion (around USD 300 million). Of that amount, R$155.4 million was paid in February 2025, R$1.517 billion was credited on October 22, and the remaining R$10 million will be released after the completion of post-closing steps.

Felipe Gutterres, Copel’s Executive Vice President of Finance and Investor Relations, stated that the operation “demonstrates the company’s agility and efficiency in recycling assets and minority stakes, reinforcing its ability to capture value and deliver consistent returns to shareholders.”

Copel, based in Curitiba, has been focusing on optimizing its energy portfolio through asset rotation and strategic investments aimed at enhancing profitability and maintaining sustainable growth.
