By Brazil Stock Guide – Brazil’s Ministry of Ports and Airports awarded operating rights for 13 regional airports on Thursday (27) in a public auction held at B3, the São Paulo–based exchange. The event, part of the federal government’s AmpliAR program, was first reported by Mercado & Eventos, which noted that B3 closed the year with a record 65 infrastructure auctions.
Guarulhos International Airport concessionaire GRU Airport (managed by Invepar and not publicly listed) won 12 of the 13 assets after submitting the only qualifying bid for its block. The package includes airports in Bahia, Maranhão, Mato Grosso, Pernambuco, Piauí, Ceará, Rondônia and Tocantins. Fraport Brasil, owned by Fraport AG (FRA.DE), secured the Jericoacoara Airport in Ceará with a 100% discount against the government’s benchmark parameters for revenue, CAPEX and OPEX, as defined by the National Airport Plan.
Investments across all concessions are expected to surpass R$ 700 million (about US$ 140 million), with required upgrades spanning expansion, maintenance and operational improvements.
Ports and Airports Minister Silvio Costa Filho said the AmpliAR program strengthens regional aviation by bringing private-sector modernization to smaller terminals. “When an airport improves, everything around it grows together. It boosts the local economy, stimulates new businesses and tourism, and brings distant regions closer, expanding access to health services, education and air transport,” he said.
B3 procurement head Mônica Salles Lanna emphasized the exchange’s role as a bridge between government projects and private capital. “We appreciate once again the trust and partnership of the Ministry of Ports and Airports,” she said.
