By Brazil Stock Guide – Odebrecht presented the lowest bid of R$6.7 billion ($1.2 billion) for Lot 2 of São Paulo’s Line 19-Celeste metro, which will connect Guarulhos to the Anhangabaú station in the city center. The envelopes were opened on Tuesday, Sept. 23, with Odebrecht beating four other qualified competitors. The company must still pass technical evaluation before being declared the winner.
The 17.6 km line will feature 15 stations and is expected to transport 630,000 passengers per day, becoming the first metro connection between São Paulo and another city’s downtown area. To speed up construction, the project was split into three separate lots.
Odebrecht, once a target of Brazil’s Operation Car Wash, reverted to its historic name this year after judicial recovery. Formerly rebranded as OEC in 2019, the company says it has delivered 36 projects worth $16 billion in seven countries over the past five years, according to O Estado de S. Paulo.
On Monday, Sept. 22, the Yellow River company, a subsidiary of China’s PowerChina, submitted the lowest proposal of R$4.9 billion ($880 million) for Lot 1, which covers 5.7 km and five stations in Guarulhos. The final lot, linking Vila Maria to São Paulo’s downtown, will be auctioned on Wednesday.
Following confirmation of the winners and contract signing, executive projects will begin, followed by construction works. The timeline for completion is 75 months (six years and three months) from the start of construction.
