Gold and Ibovespa Shine in October, but in Dollar Terms Brazil’s Benchmark Is Still Far from Its Record

Real assets and dividend stocks led the gains, signaling investors’ appetite for moderate-risk exposure and inflation hedges amid global volatility

Ibovespa 3.24% rise

By Brazil Stock Guide – October 2025 ended on a high note for Brazilian markets. The Ibovespa, dividend index (IDIV), and real-estate fund benchmark (IFIX) all closed the month at record nominal highs, while gold and Brazilian depositary receipts (BDRX) stood out as top performers. Yet, measured in U.S. dollars, the Ibovespa remains 37.7% below its all-time peak reached in 2008 — highlighting upside potential if foreign inflows strengthen again.

According to Elos Ayta, the BDRX led monthly gains with a 5.90% jump, followed by gold (+3.17%) and the Ibovespa (+2.26%), supported by solid corporate earnings and steady overseas flows. The Ptax dollar rose 1.24%, while the CDI and IHFA (multi-strategy hedge-fund index) delivered 1.22% and 1.19%, respectively. The euro (-0.44%) and bitcoin (-2.80%) were the only assets in the red.

For the year through October, gold maintained a wide lead with a 51.86% surge, reflecting its safe-haven role. Small caps followed with 27.85%, and the Ibovespa gained 24.32%, ahead of IDIV (+21.65%), IFIX (+15.32%), and IHFA (+13.08%). The Ptax dollar dropped 13.05% year-to-date, underscoring the real’s resilience as domestic sentiment improved.

Over the past 12 months, bitcoin (+45.56%) narrowly beat gold (+45.39%) for the top spot, followed by BDRX (+21.91%), IDIV (+15.63%), and Ibovespa (+15.29%). The CDI returned 13.64%, outperforming inflation and other fixed-income benchmarks. The euro (-0.93%) and dollar (-6.81%) posted the weakest performances.

Gold hit an all-time high of US$ 4,359.40 on October 20, before ending the month at US$ 4,010.52 — an 8% pullback from the peak. Despite the correction, the metal remains among 2025’s best performers, supported by its defensive appeal amid persistent macroeconomic uncertainty and still-elevated real interest rates.
