By Brazil Stock Guide – Comgás, Latin America’s largest piped-gas distributor, opened on Monday, November 3, 2025, its second public call for biomethane supply. The new round seeks to expand renewable-gas sourcing for São Paulo’s captive market, with bids due by December 3, according to the company’s public notice.
The process follows the first call, launched in March 2025, which secured about 200,000 m³ per day of biomethane from certified producers. Building on that start, Comgás now aims to increase contracted volumes and diversify supply sources, targeting biogas derived from agricultural, industrial, and urban waste streams to accelerate its decarbonization plan for São Paulo state.
Biomethane, fully interchangeable with natural gas, can flow through the existing distribution network serving industries, commercial fleets, and households. “The renewable gas is a strategic pillar in Brazil’s energy transition, directly cutting greenhouse-gas emissions,” the company said in a statement.
Comgás operates more than 23,000 km of pipelines across 96 municipalities, serving over 2.6 million customers in the industrial, commercial, residential, and automotive segments. The distributor also supplies cogeneration projects and thermal power plants across Greater São Paulo, Campinas, the Baixada Santista, and the Paraíba Valley.
The company is wholly controlled by Cosan S.A. (B3: CSAN3 / NYSE: CSAN) through its subsidiary Commit Gás, following the 2021 delisting that consolidated Cosan’s ownership and integration across its gas, energy, and fuel businesses.ley.
