By Brazil Stock Guide – Brazil’s air passenger traffic expanded 7.7% in the first quarter of 2026 compared with the same period a year earlier, supported by stronger international demand and continued recovery in the aviation sector.

More than 33.5 million passengers traveled on domestic and international flights during the period, according to data from the Ministry of Ports and Airports, based on figures from civil aviation regulator ANAC.

International routes led the growth, rising 13% in the quarter to over 8.3 million passengers. Domestic traffic also increased, up 6% to approximately 25.2 million travelers.

In March alone, passenger traffic reached a record for the month, totaling 10.6 million. Of that, 8 million were domestic passengers, while 2.6 million traveled internationally.

Year-over-year, March traffic rose 3.1%, with domestic travel up 1.3% and international routes posting a stronger 8.9% increase.

Facing cost pressures, the federal government has implemented measures to support the aviation sector, including reducing PIS/Cofins taxes on aviation fuel (QAV) to zero and postponing air navigation fees. Additional measures are under consideration to mitigate fare impacts for consumers.
