By Brazil Stock Guide – Banco do Brasil SA (BBAS3 BZ) has renegotiated R$40 billion in debt since the launch of the New Desenrola Brasil program, covering initiatives for households, companies, students and rural producers as well as agreements completed through the lender’s own channels.
The state-controlled bank said Thursday that the total includes four main parts of the program — Families, Companies, Fies and Rural — alongside restructuring deals for other clients.
Banco do Brasil renegotiated R$4.5 billion in debt for 496,000 customers through Desenrola Families. Outside the program, another 794,000 individual clients renegotiated more than R$10 billion.
Corporate Credit
For businesses, Banco do Brasil served 48,000 companies through Pronampe, a federal program supporting micro and small enterprises, and Procred, which provides credit and debt financing for individual entrepreneurs and microenterprises.
Those operations generated R$6.2 billion in disbursements.
The lender also renegotiated R$3.7 billion in student debt involving 61,400 borrowers through Desenrola Fies.
Under Desenrola Rural, agreements totaled R$216.1 million and reached 11,700 agricultural producers.
Payroll Loans
Banco do Brasil also disbursed more than R$14.2 billion in payroll-deductible loans to 301,000 beneficiaries of Brazil’s INSS social security system and public-sector workers.
The operations were based on updated conditions established under Provisional Measure 1,355.
Third Phase
The government announced a third phase of the New Desenrola Brasil program last week.
Under the plan, the federal government will buy debt portfolios from financial institutions and other creditors at discounts of at least 90%, before offering repayment conditions directly to borrowers.
Banco do Brasil said it is awaiting publication and implementation of the regulatory measures required before determining how it will participate in the new phase.
The bank also reiterated its commitment to responsible lending “aligned with its internal policies, and support for clients in the sustainable management of their finances.”
