Second cargo train derailment in a week halts grain flow in São Paulo.

By Brazil Stock Guide – A cargo train operated by Rumo Logística (RAIL3.SA) derailed on Thursday in Araraquara, São Paulo state, marking the second major incident in less than a week on the same line.

According to G1, at least 30 grain wagons loaded with corn came off the tracks around 3 p.m. near the Tutóia and Bueno de Andrada yards. No injuries were reported.

In a statement, Rumo said its technical teams were deployed to remove the wagons and clear the railway. “The causes will be duly investigated together with the competent authorities,” the company said.

Initial assessments suggest a possible coupling failure may have triggered the derailment. Images from the site showed corn spilled across the track bed, with significant damage to the line.

The derailment comes just seven days after another accident involving Rumo in Araraquara. On Sept. 25, a freight train collided with a truck at a level crossing near Estação do Ouro, dragging the vehicle for about 200 meters. That crash caused 14 wagons to derail and left the track visibly twisted.

Both incidents raise concerns over operational safety and infrastructure resilience on one of Brazil’s key railway corridors for agribusiness exports. Investigations into the causes of both accidents remain ongoing.
