By Brazil Stock Guide – Brazil’s agricultural research agency Embrapa said funding allocated for research and innovation will rise sharply in 2026 after Congress approved changes to the federal budget proposal, strengthening support for agricultural science and development.
Under the budget approved on Friday (19), Embrapa will receive 602.5 million reais ($) for the Research and Agricultural Innovation Program, known as Program 2303. Of that total, 410 million reais will be directed to operating expenses and investments linked directly to agricultural research.
The amount represents a significant increase from the original draft budget sent to Congress by the executive branch, which earmarked 497.8 million reais for the program. The final figure reflects a 26.7% increase over the initial proposal.
Embrapa President Silvia Massruhá said the expanded allocation underscores the strategic role of agricultural research and innovation in Brazil’s long-term development and sustainability agenda, providing the conditions needed to expand the company’s contributions to society and the productive sector.
The additional funding comes as Brazil seeks to reinforce public investment in science and technology, areas viewed as critical to maintaining the competitiveness of its agricultural sector and advancing sustainable production practices.
