By Brazil Stock Guide – Brazil’s air transport sector is on track to end 2025 with a record 130 million passengers, the highest annual volume ever recorded in the country and the first time demand has surpassed pre-pandemic levels. The estimate is based on official aviation demand data compiled by the federal government and the Agência Nacional de Aviação Civil, reflecting activity through November.

Between January and November, airlines operating in Brazil transported more than 117 million passengers, a 9.3% increase compared with the same period in 2024. Domestic flights accounted for the bulk of the market, with 91.9 million seats sold, up 8% year on year, while international traffic expanded at a faster pace, reaching 25.8 million passengers, a 13.6% annual increase.

For foreign observers, the milestone is significant. Brazil is a continental-scale country with limited alternatives to air travel for long-distance mobility. Aviation plays a critical role in connecting regional economies, supporting tourism and enabling business activity across a market that spans more than 8.5 million square kilometers. The recovery now visible reflects not only pent-up demand after the pandemic but also a broader normalization of household consumption and corporate travel.

International exposure increases

International routes now represent 22% of total passenger traffic, signaling Brazil’s gradual reintegration into global travel flows after years of disruption. The largest international passenger markets connected to Brazil in 2025 were Argentina, the United States, Chile and Portugal, highlighting strong regional ties in South America as well as enduring economic and cultural links with North America and Europe.

Traffic remains highly concentrated at major gateways. São Paulo–Guarulhos International Airport, Brazil’s largest airport and primary international hub, accounted for 29% of all international passengers, with 14.9 million travelers when origin and destination flows are combined. It was followed by Rio de Janeiro–Galeão International Airport, which handled 5 million passengers, while Florianópolis, Campinas and Brasília completed the list of the country’s five busiest international airports.

Domestic market anchored in major cities

In the domestic segment, passenger flows remain anchored in Brazil’s main economic and administrative centers. Guarulhos led overall traffic with 27 million passengers, followed by Congonhas Airport (21.8 million), Brasília International Airport (14 million), Confins (11 million) and Galeão (10.7 million). The concentration reflects both population density and the dominance of São Paulo and Brasília in business, government and financial activity.

Looking ahead to 2026, the rebound places renewed pressure on airport infrastructure, airline capacity and regulatory coordination. For international investors and operators, Brazil’s aviation recovery underscores a broader theme: a large emerging economy once again expanding mobility, consumption and connectivity after a volatile decade shaped by recession, pandemic shock and structural adjustment.
