By Brazil Stock Guide – Ambipar (AMBP3.SA) has filed for judicial recovery in a Rio de Janeiro commercial court as a strategic step to protect its operations, preserve liquidity and ensure continuity of services in environmental management, according to a company statement. The group said the move is essential to maintain thousands of jobs, uphold contracts and support its role in sustainability, decarbonization and emergency response services in Brazil and abroad.
Founded in 1995, Ambipar has grown into a global environmental solutions provider operating in 41 countries with more than 20,000 employees. The group reported R$6.4 billion in revenue in 2024. It said the restructuring process is intended to allow an “orderly and transparent reorganization,” ensure equal treatment of creditors and maintain strategic activities crucial to environmental protection and industrial safety.
Why the restructuring matters
Ambipar’s filing comes after pressure from financial institutions and bondholders, driven by market volatility in its green bonds and internal governance setbacks. The company argued that judicial protection is necessary to avoid an abrupt enforcement of cross-default clauses that could jeopardize more than R$10 billion in liabilities and interrupt essential environmental services.
The company also emphasized that judicial recovery will provide time to negotiate debts, stabilize operations and sustain investments in circular economy projects, energy transition technologies and carbon reduction solutions.
Strategic relevance for Brazil
Ambipar is considered a key player in Brazil’s environmental infrastructure, handling hazardous waste, industrial accidents, chemical spills and large-scale environmental crises. Its services are used by energy, mining, logistics and manufacturing companies, making its continuity critical for national industrial safety and environmental compliance.
The company said its plan aims at protecting employment, ensuring operational capacity and preserving Brazil’s leadership in environmental emergency response and sustainability innovation.
International restructuring efforts
In parallel to the Brazilian proceedings, Ambipar Emergency Response — its subsidiary headquartered in the Cayman Islands and operating globally — filed for Chapter 11 protection in the United States. The company said this coordinated restructuring will align international operations and protect global assets.
