By Brazil Stock Guide – Brazil’s Vice President and Minister of Industry, Trade and Services, Geraldo Alckmin, said the government will push for more products to be excluded from the 50% tariff imposed by US President Donald Trump on Brazilian exports.

Alckmin made the remarks on Friday during an event hosted by LATAM Airlines Group SA (LTM) in São Carlos, São Paulo state. He highlighted that Trump’s recent praise of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva at the United Nations General Assembly, along with the prospect of direct talks between the two leaders, marked “an important step” in the bilateral trade agenda, according to CNN Brasil.

“We will work to reduce this tariff imposed by the US on Brazil,” Alckmin told reporters. “On the other side, we will seek to exclude as many products as possible from this tariff hike.”

Alckmin was tasked by Lula to lead negotiations with Washington alongside Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira. He stressed that the brief exchange between Lula and Trump in New York set the stage for further progress: “I think an important step was taken between President Lula and President Trump, and now we will take the next ones.”

Speaking after Lula at the UN, Trump said the two leaders had “excellent chemistry” during a quick encounter before his speech and agreed to talk again next week. Lula later described the meeting as “a good surprise,” underscoring his expectation that the rapprochement could ease pressure on sectors such as trucks and pharmaceuticals, already affected by the tariffs.
